  3. It was built around the beginning-mid 10th century. The date appears plausible as the design follows the usual pattern employed by Jayavarman for his network of “hospitals” established throughout the empire; in particular, a single gopura facing east, a central tower-like shrine, a single “library” in the southeast corner of the courtyard, and a reservoir located to the northeast. The presence of the reservoir is particularly revealing as healing homes probably incorporated sacred water rituals as a component of their healing program. In addition, in line with Jayavarman’s profligate but hasty approach to construction, the workmanship of the monument is rather poor. In its current state, heavily damaged, the sandstone blocks of eastern gopura seem particularly unsuitable and are covered with a series of holes that served as anchor points for the wooden handles used to help move the blocks into place. The dark, almost black, laterite blocks of the central sanctuary have a somewhat better shape, as the newly mined laterite was much easier to work with than the sandstone.
