ปราสาทหินเมืองต่ำ (ประโคนชัย, ไทย) - รีวิว - ThailandAgoda.com
Prasat Hin Mueang Tum is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Jo Ra Khe sub-district 20km south-west of the town of Prakhon Chai, and just 7km south-east of Phanom Rung, Thailand
We combined with a visit to Phanom Rung. A lovely place to visit set in nice gardens. Not as impressive as Phanom Rung but quieter and less walking involved.
These are old Khmer ruins built at the time of Hindu Kings. The lawns are spacious and the ruins are very prettyVery similar to the ruins of Angkor Wat
Dedicated to the god Vishnu, this temple is as old and, I believe, in better condition than Prasat Him Panom Rung. Their was less visitors to this site than Prasat Him Panom Rung which gave better photos and a closer, more interesting experience. The stairs in to the grounds proper would be tricky for a less able person and the steps into the center courtyard would be very difficult.I found this to be the highlight of my stay in Buriram and would recommend it to anyone with an interest or appreciation of Asian history.
Prasat Muang Tam (Thai: ปราสาทเมืองต่ำ ปราสาทหินเมืองต่ำ), GPS: 14.498124 N, 102.983417 E (14°29’53.3″N 102°59’00.3″E), on Route 3054, ปราสาทหินเมืองต่ำ Tambon Chorakhe Mak, Amphoe Prakhon Chai, Chang Wat Buri Ram. It is best to get the combination ticket to see Phanom Rung Historical and Prasat Muang Tamfor 150 Baht for foreigners, or 30 baht for Thai citizens. This site asks “would this be a good hot day activity?” Not really, but you do not get much of a choice. November temperatures were bearable, but certainly January or February would be ideal. After seeing Prasat Muang Tam, if you are traveling onward to Phanom Rung Historical Park, the following two small free sites are worthwhile:Kuti Rue Si, Ban Khok Mueang (Thai: กุฏิฤาษีบ้านโคกเมือง), GPS: 14.501136 N, 102.976519 E (14°30’04.1″N 102°58’35.5″E) is 1.1 km from Prasat Muang Tam. Travel north on Route 3054 to GPS 14.500508 N, 102.979669 E (14°30’01.8″N 102°58’46.8″E) and turn west onto the small road, and continue 350 meters to the Prasat.Prasat Nong Bua Rai (Thai: กุฏิฤๅษีหนองบัวราย), GPS: 14.531540 N, 102.962017 E (14°31’53.5″N 102°57’43.3″E), Route 2117, Chorakhe Mak, Prakhon Chai District, Buri Ram 31140
Close to Prasat Phanom Rung and the historical park. You can easily do both in an afternoon, Foreigners (farangs) need to buy a ticket which cover both sites, cost (Nov 2018) 150 Bht. Quieter than the Phanom Rung and smaller but nice place and located beside a man made lake/
Smallish in size and height but worth a visit, there is 4 L shaped pools and some trees in the area, one of those trees is a huge one, and there is a park around the temple. If you buy a combo ticket you save some bath when you visit Prasat Hin Phanom Rung (150bath for farang and 30bath for locals). There are signs in both thai and english telling you about the various features of the temple and grounds.
Only 8 km from Phanom Rung this temple is at the bottom of the hill and access can be with a combined ticket. The area to visit is quite large but the complex itself is not that big. It is well preserved and interesting in the typical Khmer style, similar to Angkor Wat.
Together with 25 other Anglo-Thai Society members, my wife and myself visited the relatively small Prasat Hin Muang Tum Khmer Temple. We had done so immediately after visiting the nearby but equally impressive Phanom Rung site (see separate Review). Time permitting, both are well worth seeing as they differ in character – Phanom Rong is located some 350-400 feet above sa-level, wheras Prasat Hin Mueang Tum is on level terrain and – as such – good for all visitors to access. It also has 4 L-shaped Ponds in the central part of the site which is also well preserved. Well worth a visit.
This is my favorite of the ancient Cambodian temples in Thailand. This is well-preserved with beautiful sculptures and is easy to drive to. Note that it may be a bit difficult for those with walking disabilities and very young children.
After visiting Khao Phanom Rung we drove 8 km to the smaller Prasat Hin Muang Tum Khmer Temple. First we had lunch at the dam of the water reservoir where the car park, food stalls and shops are located. Prasat Hin Mueang Tum is on level terrain and good for all visitors to access but some of the steps into the center courtyard would be very difficult for older persons. It also has 4 L-shaped Ponds in the central part of the site which is also well preserved. Their were only few visitors to this site which is about a 1000 years old and dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu.
