Did a combination trip with elephant and rafting at Siam rivers. They have care for four elephants. I was the only visitors and had a wonderful experience. They take care of the elephants really well, they can freely walk around, don’t have to carry tourists. I gave them banana and bathed one in the river. Really friendly animals and nice mahouts and guide (Ken). Really recommend this animal -friendly place to visit!
It has been the best day of my life! Everything was just perfect! The elephants are adorable and the stuff are so friendly and nice! We had so much fun! I’m definitely gonna do it again!
If you love elephants this is the place for you. Learning about their lives and the lives of the men who care for these fabulous creatures. Feeding them bananas, seeing them get on with their work watching them have fun in the water. Fabulous trip
I have visited Chaing Mai twice and longed to see elephants but I could never find a place where I was truly satisfied that the animals were being well looked after and not treated and some sort of circus animal. I finally found this place through trip advisor and was conviced by all the other reviews. The company was very easy to contact via email and we arranged the pick up for the following day. I was a bit worried about the trip to the place as I have had bad experiences with the van drivers driving like something out of an action movie, however this was not the case. The driver was careful and I didn’t once feel concerned on the 1 hour 45 minute trip. The experience of meeting the elephants was awesome, there was only 5 people visiting and 2 elephants so my partner and I were able to spend some time feeding an elephant ourselves which was really special. We then went for a walk following in the giant footsteps of these elephants before taking them for a bath down in the river. One thing to note is that what you will be doing is experience the day to day life of an elephant and witnessing the strong bond between an elephant and his carer who have been together their entire lives. Some people may argue that you don’t ‘do enough’. But that is exactly what I like about it because the elephants are just allowed to be. They are not forced to perform or be sat on. The carers are patient and just let them do as they please which was exactly what I wanted to see. The guide Peter (I hope I spelt that correctly) was amazing. He has so much knowledge to share and was very helpful in making sure everyone was well looked after. We had a break for lunch which was a delicious selection of Thai food and some drinks. Our original plan was to do an elephant tour all day, however we noticed the other members of our group were going to do white water rafting and my partner was really interested. I’m not a strong swimmer so I was very apprehensive about the idea. I’m the type that considers all the risks and thinks about the travel insurance claim! Anyway I spoke to Peter and he happy to adjust our program and the costs were the same so it didn’t cost us any extra. I spoke to him about my worries and he reassured me that about all the safety in place. Without what Peter had said I never would have done it and I am so glad I did. It was one of the best experiences of our whole 2 month trip. Thank you Peter. Also thank you to all the staff on the white water rafting, they all had a great sense of humour but knew when to get down to business and be serious with safety. For someone that can barely swim facing up to current, rocks and waves I never once felt scared because I could see the staff waiting to help if you did flip and our raft guide was also excellent. Keeping in mind this is in the season when the river is lower so it’s not as intense as the other season. But thank you to everyone at Siam Elephant and White Water Rafting, you gave me the confidence to try something new and we had a fantastic day!
We took our daughters for a full day at the sanctuary. The staff was friendly and patient. The schedule was well planned. We got a chance to hear the story about the elephants, take care of them and feed them, walk with them around the forests and see them taking a bath at the river. Great lunch too.
Massive thank you to Pittaya, Mr White and Mr Rambo for an incredible day at Siam Elephant! Can’t recommend this sanctuary highly enough for anyone who wants an intimate experience led by people who only have the elephants best interests at heart! We had such an incredible day that we will never forget and we will most definitely be back!! Lots of love from Katie, India, Yasmin and Laura xx
We booked this trip from our Panvinam Spa Resort. it was 1,5 h riding, it’s deep in the mountains/ forest. just a few tourists arrive here. it is directly at the Mae Taeng. the tour guide /host is half Thai half German and extremely friendly. You walk around the hills and forest with 2 elephants, feed them. little dogs were following us. the sight of the elephants following you is amazing. later on ate the river you play with them/ throwing buckets of water at them. finally we went white water rafting which was fun even in the dry season. the rafting guys are hilarious and made the rafting incredibly fun!! if you want an unforgettable experience: DO THIS!!!! the elephants are treated well and you feel the heartwarming way of living and attitude there.
If you are looking for a genuine insight into the daily lives of elephants in Thailand then this is the place to go. The place is a small independent business and they genuinely care about the animals and treat them so well. Myself and 3 of my friends did a full day trip here and it was amazing and so intimate as it was only us there that day. All of the staff there are so informative and kind we had a lovely day, I literally couldn’t recommend this place enough.
It was a wonderful day incl. homemade Lunch (warm welcome, feeding and bathing the elephants and go for a walk with them) with well treated elephants and the best guide you could ever have (half Thai, half German)! It is deep in the mountains but a must see in Chiang Mai!
