  1. I called in here without being part of a tour. I was lucky that I had my own hire car and so was able to. This village has approximately 5 hill tribes living there. It was really quiet when I visited and I couldn’t have found them to be any more friendly and accommodating than they were. I found them fascinating and although we struggled with communication, they certainly responded to lots of smiles. They are also happy for you to take their photographs and to watch them at work. The various tribes do all have things to sell you but I didn’t find them pushy. They were happy to show you their wares but equally accepted if you decided not to buy from their stall. They do sell some beautifully embroidered / hand sewn items all very reasonably priced. The ‘long-necks’ were really delightful, so friendly and happy. I appreciate everyone’s experience and interactions with these people is different, based on a number of variants but mine was everything I had hoped it would be.It probably helped that I wasn’t part of a tour. At no point did I get the feeling that these people were being exploited or unhappy – quite the opposite really. They are tribal folk living in primitive conditions but who engage with their visitors really positively. I’m really glad I took the time to find them and meet them. They left me with some wonderful memories.

  2. We we on a mission trip with Plant with Purpose. We worked with three Hill Tribes while in country. We planted trees, built a check dam and cut a fire break. The people are kind and hard-working farmers. Truly a life-changing experience.

  3. We were shown around the village showing how they lived and every so often there would be a little stall selling locally made products.

  4. My wife, MiMi, is a Lahu tribal person. Spent her childhood in the Lahu village of Goshen. So, visiting the Lahu Village brings back happy memories for her. Lahu and other tribes make many things by hand and these are sold (some through Fair Trade outlets) to help their living requirements. Being married to a Lahu I am biased towards recommending anybody who can to visit Lahu Village.

  5. I’ll try to be careful with this one. My family and I hesitated quite a few times before going. We decided nonetheless to visit and try not to see it a human zoo. This is far from a human zoo. It a simply a place where the Lahu and other tribes people get to display and sell their work. Yes, they are waiting for tourists, but it looked exactly like any other street market. Don’t go there with a tour. Just take a GRAB or cab. Pay the entrance fee and please buy something from the people so the money stays with the people.

  6. The Hotel organised the trip to the Hill Village for me, and it was a day that came to an end far to suddenly, it cost 300 bats (local currancy) NO CARDS be warned to pick up; a bamboo cane as you will need it, if you are over 35. The hill sides are steep and where there is a concrete path, it has broken up and it all over the place. Everything is 100 bats, so it seems, I did not barter as it seemed so cheap.

  7. Most people will experience culture shock when visiting a Yard village. These people have been living in the mountains for years

  8. It is interesting to see if you want to know more about tribes and way of life. You get a chance to see the Birman long neck women, the type of house they live in. Most of them sell their handcrafted objects to make a living. Because you have to pay to enter the village, it doesn’t make it feel as an authentic

  9. Very nice placed village in the jungle, just by the river. Simple living. Quietly and picturesque. We passed by on a bambooraft guided by two Thai captains.
