Krathing Waterfall is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 22210, Thailand
Krathing Waterfall is about a 40 minute northwards drive from Chanthaburi on Highway 3249. It is part of the Khao Khitchakut National Park. The waterfall is on 13 levels, with nature walks connecting them. The falls form pools, some of which are suitable for swimming.I went with four Thai friends. They were charged 30 baht for entry, but I as a foreigner was charged 200 baht, more than six times the local rate. This discriminatory pricing at national parks and attractions is the cause of controversy among foreigners resident in Thailand and among overseas tourists. It certainly does nothing to make you fell welcome in the “Land of Smiles”.
I went to the Krathing waterfall with my boyfriend and we had a great time! You can take a stroll through the jungle or head straight to the waterfall. The waterfall has several levels, and in quite some of them you can swim between the fish. Very refreshing on a hot summer day. On the lowest level there were children and families playing and having a picnic, on the higher ones it was very quite and beautiful. The lower 4 levels or so are easy to reach for anyone, but as my friend and I are hikers, so we could easily make it to the 9th level. After that it’s really steep and I only recommend climbing further to people who’re experienced at climbing and only if the weather allows you to (as the path is steep and becomes muddy and slippery when it rains). You probably get the best views at level 7, 8 and 9. Level 7 was my personal favourite to swim: there were colourful butterflies everywhere and you’ll have a great view on the waterfall and the valley behind you. Don’t miss out on this gem if you’re in the region!
This was a great waterfall to hike, relatively easy as well. The waterfall is 9 levels high but you can only access 8 (need “permission” for 9th level). In total less than 30 mins for us to get to the top.The natural pools are great for a swim!Saw a three-star review, citing discriminatory pricing. Yes, that happens, so be prepared for it – this will happen to foreigners in almost every Thai national park but to put it in context, 200baht (foreigner prices) is only $7 or £5… its not fair but also not gonna break your bank account…
After the first rains of this year, some water is back. We went up to level 9 and enjoyed the nice view. I could go down the water despite the slippery rocks!Restaurant at the parking lot is convient with local good food.
