Wat Kuiburi/Kuiburi temple is the oldest buddhist temple in Kiburi, very much revered by Thais from near and far. The temple ground comprise of the famous temple with a statue of a special monk who often fasted for many days, and a number of buddha statues, and several other buildings including the living quarters of monks and nuns, a rare sight indeed. When we visited we could hear the chanting of monks from one building, and observe the leisurely gathering of a group of nuns. Part of the main temple was being renovated and thus closed for the public. Well worth a visit
The temple itself is nothing special and the outside is not particularly attractive. What is great though is the main prayer hall which has beautiful murals, lovely designs on the door and is generally pleasing to look at. Also, this temple has a very local feel and is completely untouristy. While I will not recommend a special trip to this temple, it makes a nice add-on to the itinerary if you are visiting the Kuiburi National Park to see elephants as it is near the turn into the National Park. So instead of paying a ton of money from Hua Hin or Prachuap Khiri Khan to pay a taxi to go all the way only to see the Kuiburi National Park, add this to the itinerary so that you are seeing more than one place (and the driver probably won’t charge you extra since this is already on the way).
