Non Mueang Ancient Town is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thailand
This a fairly extensive archaeological site about 5 kms to the south of Chum Phae. Although signposted on the main route 12, further signposting to this attraction is almost non-existent. To reach the location in a forest, you have to travel on a narrow and twisting road across paddy fields and farm land. Suddenly on your left an ornate archway marks the entrance to the site. The various archaeological digs are now preserved under cover. Many ancient burials can be seen. There is a visitor center, toilets and refreshments are available. If you are interested in archaeology then this is worth a visit however I suggest you get a tuk-tuk at Chum Phae Bus Station to get you there – negotiate a price beforehand.
it’s a nice place for archeology. You’ve got toilets and refreshments. Staff don’t speak English and not very easy to find.
A nice historical trip out. It’s not far from the centre of Chumphae it’s very interesting and only takes about 10 mins on a bike. You can kill an hour or so if you want to get out for a bit.
Great archeological dig that traces back to Bronze Age. 5 great dig spots with original body remains and pottery as they were discovered in the 1980s. And almost no one was there, so you have it to yourself. A little out of the way 5 miles off main highway, but well worth the journey.
Chum Phae is worth spending an hour or two in. It is a typical Issan town full of farmers who have come to buy and sell produce. The market is open daily and is worth looking at. But a ” must do” thing is to try an Issan meal from on of the many little local restaurants,There is a large lake in the center of the town that is relaxing to sit by or for the more energetic walk round.
A bit hard to find. Noticed it while in a car with local friend, and we stopped. There is not a LOT to see, but the skeletons are of VERY tall people, unusual for the region, from bronze/iron age. There isn’t a lot of information to be found on who they were, at the exhibit, or online, but the display is very good. Don’t drop your cell phone / camera, though!
This place is well worth a visit. When I first went there no english was evident but on my recent return I discovered that the historical area next to the office had been updated with accurate history. Royalty have visited the place years ago as well. There are caretaker workers and the office is staffed during daylight. They have many viewing ares well marked. It is very close to the town of Chum Phae. I enjoyed my time there and regularly take out of towner friends there.
Well worth a visit, gardens well kept a pleasure to see. When visiting Chum Phae is a must to see and close to town
It has been modernised and has information in English and Thai. Worth a visit also there are brochers with information about the site.
