  1. We were told this was a long journey from our place in Mae Rim, even though only about 20kms as the crow flies. It took about an hour and a half to wind our way up the mountain. Excellent scenery on the way with virtually no traffic. Once you are enroute, the signage is plentiful and you won’t lose your way. I was quite prepared to be less than amazed from what sounded like too high praise, but my goodness, what a wat! We arrived around 10 am and had the place to ourselves. The mosaics on the long corridor along the back of the wat were themselves remarkable, but the serenity produced by the building with its glitter and shapes quite left us breathless. The massive straw Buddha was impressive. Inside was another assault on the senses. Arriving at such places without the great press of others is a luxury not to be missed. Afterwards, we moved through the adjacent woods and were well pleased to tick off various species including the impressive blue bearded bee eater. Across the way is the area of the Buddha’s fourfold footprint which by the time we got there had attracted visitors. It was a mere curiosity compared to the wat. The only negative came with the overpriced and somewhat unwelcoming coffee shop.

  2. Thanks to Google maps and my Thai friend we drove from Chang Mai to this stunning Temple. Lots of interesting views on the way. Coffee shop at the Temple expensive and disappointing. Take water with you lots of parking around the Temple. There is also a Buddha hand print in a smaller temple nearby.

  3. A long drive (about one and a half hours) from Chiang Mai, we hired a car and driver to take us to Wat Phra Phuttabat Si Roi. So much to see, this place is exceptional. The drive from Mae Rim is a feast for the eyes – and the camera. If you are going in a car rather than hiring a songthaew, ask your driver if he will stop on the way so you can take photos. The 18 km lead in road is windy and very steep in parts. A lot of work is underway with a magnificent entrance gate under construction. We took in the two temples and the many hundreds – literally – of Buddha statues. The temple with the Buddha footprint is wonderful. We were very happy and content with what we had seen, only to discover that we hadn’t even got to the main temple. What an absolute gem. There is SO much decoration it is hard to absorb. Take time to study the murals on the walls behind the main temple. The painting is superb. The toilets are clean and located near the main temple and down a level where you enter across from the cafe. The cafe is clean with a good range of food and drinks that are tasty and very reasonably priced.

  4. Clean, relatively new. This wat is beautiful with many buildings to check out. There was no one around to give us any information so we just walked around on our own and enjoyed the peaceful beauty.

  5. Very beautiful views on the way to Wat (Temple) with longan, persimmon gardens, rice fields. The road is good but narrow and steep.Wat is very peaceful and elegance with Lanna style artworks. The four Buddhas footprints is in the small temple (Phra Phuttabat Si Roi)The coffee shop in front of Wat is clean and good for relaxing with reasonable prices. Also the toilets of Wat are very clean.

  6. the Best in middle of the mountains and peaceful. the way to get there is very sharp curve. must have a good skill to drive or hire a mini bus from Chiangmai.

  7. The gate of this temple looks very nice by Thai Lanna arts Sculpture. Just that! And the monk uses the microphone ask you to donate money to build the temple none stop. We waiting till he stops to drink water so then we have peace of our ears and mind as the temple should be! That’s so sad as all Thai buddies like money more than peace! Don’t forget to bring your noise-cancelling headphone 🙂
