I was looking forward to trying it out as I’ve heard it is a great way to stay in shape and really practical for self defense. I went to three sessions. It all went the same way: warm up for about 20 minutes, pairing up and practicing some technique, then rolling (pairing up and trying to get the other person into a submission position). As an older person (I’m well over 40) I found that it was random to who I got paired with for both the practicing part, and then the rolling. These guys you practice with or roll are not trainers but other students. So I found that some of them were really polite and safety conscious, but others were really aggressive. Especially some of the beginning students (like me) who really don’t know enough of a technique to roll don’t know what to do and end up using some move to hurt the other guy. I found that there was no way to try and get someone into a position I had just learned (so many things to remember) – as I was too fresh.I had two guys who at two different sessions really hurt my neck. One of them was a purple belt (I don’t know if that is high or not), young and really aggressive. As a beginner it would have been far better to just drill one technique over and over again the whole time, and only start rolling after 6 months or something (I have no idea about the 6 months – just saying that it shouldn’t be done right away).
Awsome place to train that caters to all levels of experience and all ages, feels like your joining a family not just signing up for a gym, would recommend to anybody trying to further they’re career or anybody just looking to get fit ?
Team Quest is a great place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Chiang Mai. Always have great Black Belt instructors giving detailed coaching aswell as making it a friendly fun learning environment. The variety of training partners is good because you have local coloured belts on the mats aswell as people passing through. If you are serious about training & improving then this is the place to invest in yourself.
It has a very specific style and energy. You will either like it or not like it. I found it to be ragged, and I was left to my own devices when “sparring” with a young guy who didn’t exercise much control. Having trained in Phuket, Pattaya, Bangkok, and other places in Chiang Mai, I’d put this at the bottom. But some people love it. So, do your homework.
We have 11 of us completely without any experience in MT training. The warm up already tough for somebody who seldom exercise.Trainers can be fun yet demanding and one of them even let one of us do push up when he did not do the drill properly.well some may find it harsh we took it positively.if you want a comfortable easy way out then go join some where else. This gym is serious business. We spend a good 2hrs training.
I came to Team Quest as a complete beginner at all martial arts, and after spending the past year here training and winning my first few Muay Thai fights, I have no intention of going anywhere else! The people here are a pleasure to spend time with and the trainers/coaches put a lot of effort into students of all skill levels.
Booked a private lesson and really enjoyed it. Gym has a spartan feel to it and the instructor was patient and supportive. Many thanks and look forward to visiting again.
I visited Chiang Mai for a short, spontaneous trip and Team Quest: Thailand helped accommodate me so I could make the most of the time spent there. The trainers were top notch and friendly. The Thais who coached had good English and kept practices fun and informative. They arranged a fight for me at my request in advance so I was able to compete one day after stepping off the plane. They helped me find everything I needed, recommended restaurants, and even drove me to the store when I first arrived so I could pick up some basic essentials. I stayed in their single rooms. It’s basic, but if you’re there to train and fight you don’t need much more than what they were providing and it was for the right price. The team comprised of an international group of men and women with various skill sets. There was a good community there. On Sunday we hung out, cooked out, and celebrated a team member’s birthday. When I fought I was transported by the Thai coaches to the venue. They wrapped my hands, gave me an oil massage, and helped me navigate the Thai way of conducting a Muay Thai fight. Given the limitations of time I had in Chiang Mai, I don’t see how I could have asked for anything more from Team Quest: Thailand and look forward to coming back again.
Customer service is not receptive. Difficult to answers or money refunded due to their closure. Very disappointing!!
Went here around 7 years ago (2015). It was an amazing gym, with amazing trainers in a great location. Very affordable. You were able to stay on site and train both BJJ and Muay Thai and the mall was walking distance. I had a lot of success with this place and made great memories. Its unfortunate that it is no longer around, but a lot of trainers moved to Bear fight club. Too bad they shut down during covid.
