  1. I had read reviews and thought this will be fun and I like coffee. The drive up was great however thats where it ends for me. Their was no one around except for the staff selling coffee the academy was closed for some sort of meeting I walked around and found a couple of workers that explained to me that they were removing the flesh and skins in the water vats and the extent of my experience. If you are going to advertise yourself as the place to come to lern about coffee, then someone should be there to do it. Very disappointed.

  2. Growing coffee along the hillside grows along the canyon. The canyon has a coffee tree, even in summer, it is foggy and cool.

  3. We had a fascinating tour of this family run business in the hill country of the golden triangle. Learnt all about how coffee is made and drank the outstanding results. Also had lovely meal in restaurant. Well worth a visit.

  4. Doi Chang literally means Elephant Mountain. Do not be mistaken as there is a Doi Chaang, spelled with a double ‘a’ and is not the mountain’s name. The village of mostly the Akha tribe is called Baan Doi Chang. This is the best coffee growing region of Thailand.Fresh air, scenic views and good coffee.

  5. Doi Chang makes the best coffee! Before visiting, look at the story of the local coffee on YouTube before you visit, very interesting story of the change from opium growing to world class coffee growing. There is a hotel there with 5 or 6 small A frame bungalows. Very basic, no wi-fi or mod cons, but lots of bedding for the “firm” beds, kettle, oolong tea, hotties here shower, and the most spectacular views! We love it, go every year. The approach road from the south has the best views of mountainous Thailand I have ever seen. Fantastic local restaurants (so cheap) and coffee shop at the factory with Civet Coffee, the most expensive coffee you will ever try, and the least coffee tasting cup of coffee ever! Ask at the hotel about the track up to the top of the mountain, but don’t try it in a saloon car or when it’s muddy. The road to the north takes you to Chiang Rai via a windy road and a Ford. Coffee at the hotel is fantastic.

  6. I have lived in Thailand and Doi Chang is one of the best places I have been. The drive is beautiful, the locals are extremely friendly, and the food is amazing. If you are in Chiang Rai it’s a 1/5 hour trip and is filled with absolutely incredible mountain views that was unlike anything I had ever seen in Thailand (I thought it was better than Pai). Upon arriving make sure you go to “Doi Chaang coffee house” (Note the two a’s), this is the company that brought the great taste of doi chaang to the world. I spent a night in the village and after a delicious breakfast I met the owner of the macadamia nut farm and he took me on a personal tour of the village and let me have some of the delicious macadamia that the village is also famous for.after the tour, the only thing to do was drink more of the delicious coffee in the region, where I was fortunate enough to meet the “logo man” of Doi Chaang coffee!!! (This was the equivalent of meeting Lebron James in my eyes)…I would strongly recommend: Doi Chaang coffee house, Abonzo coffee and the macadamia nuts! However, the wonderful history lesson was also very sad… First I will summarize the lesson:The “Hilltribe” initially settled Doi Chang after the long journey from China, where they grew opium and made money through illicit activities as it was the only way of survival. The Thai king addressed this issue by researching, and providing the village with the seeds, and knowledge to grow coffee, macadamia, and fruits. The whole village turned around. Instead of drugs, everyone worked together to grow coffee and support the company of Doi Chaang. Even allowing it to go international and it looked like this once starving village had been saved! However… it gets very sad. After the passing of the company founder, they lacked the strength to maintain international business and I was devastated to hear this wonderful village once proud of its self sustainability was going bankrupt. So please visit this amazing place!!!!!

  7. Serves very good coffee. Fresh air, fantastic views, good service and great company, it’s the place to r-e-l-a-x and b-r-e-a-t-h-e.

  8. Tried this coffee when I was in Thailand, I felt something amazing about this coffee, so I decided to give a try. It had a very different taste when comparing to other it wasn’t that strong I tried the Americano, and I enjoyed it.Plus organic and fair- trade.

  9. while the place itself has nothing substantial to offer – not even some explanation or factory tour – the drive there is so beautiful and scenic thatit compensate all

  10. Probably getting to Doi Chang is equally adventurous than place itself, especially if one chooses to take shorter, yet much steeper road. When it comes to village itself, it much has changed since our last visit 4 years ago, same coffee shops, same impressive view over northern Thailand and same pleasant short hike to proper peak of the Doi. Definitely one of nicer day trip from Chiang rai.
