  1. The area dedicated to a queen who added a lot towards towards the history of Lapmphun It is small but the statue is the most pleasing one I have seen. You can imagine how beautiful she was and how well liked. There were lots of floral tributes when we visited and it added to the area.. Many groups visit for pictures with the statue in the background There is also statues of her elephant and horse. A special place for local people. The restoration of the wall looks as if it has been there for ever.

  2. Near the moats on the southwest part of the old town, this park reflects the continuing cult of the Mon Queen Chamathewi, the 9th century founder of the city and state that ruled most of northern Thailand until conquered by Lanna in the late 13th century. An almost voluptuous statue of her stands in the center and sculptures of her favorite elephant and horse are in the far corners. Behind her statue is a brick wall with several panels of scenes in low-relief sculptures of various stages in the city’s history, from its founding up to the modern era of the logging industry. Though there few, if any, direct descendants of the original inhabitants, Lamphun people still revere Chamathewi. The park is popular and locals often bring offerings to her image. On festival days and other civic events the park is loaded with decorations of all sorts.

  3. So it’s a small park in the corner of the old city. There isn’t too much going on in the small space, but the wall behind the statue provides a nice, quick summary of Lamphun/Hariphunchai’s history. Come night time, the area already becomes a great night market for local food.

  4. The monument is dedicated to a ruler of Lamphun, when it was Burma. Invaders came, were held off, and later returned and only to burn everything to the ground but the main stupa. The city was then deserted for over 200 years. It’s a wonderful statue and the grounds are lovely also. I was told the month of October is their lantern festival (the month to proceed the water and lantern festival which originated and is held in Chiang Mai during November. The lanterns are just hung at this location, the temple, and overhead street entries into the inner town/city (ancient walls with older moat system are still present in some areas like in Chiang Mai. Beautiful spectacle that is worth the 45 minute drive from Chiang Mai, with several wonderful temples along the way.

  5. this historic site is in downtown Lamphun. Its on the main road near the large market. Its not a big or complex site. You can see it under one hour.

  6. Unless you know about Thai history this site has not much to offer, a statue where locals come to pray. As usual a multitude of vendors surround the area. Parking can be difficult.

  7. Just rest and photo stop for me. Rather quiet when I was there in the morning. Sellers of lottery ticket and life birds were present. Some lights were being put up for some festival I think. Not too impressive but nice to if u know the history of the monument.

  8. Chamadevi was the founder and the first ruler of the ancient Hariphunchai (Nowadays Lamphun), the first kingdom ever established in this region. During her reign, the warrior queen brought prosperity, peace and Buddhism into the kingdom. The statue represents her as a gorgeous lady with curvy well-proportioned body. Her right hand is outstretched with open palm, while her left hand holds the sword. Her statue was the first stop in our trip to Lamphun. We have to pay respect to the great queen before entering her town.

  9. When you visit Lamphun you must go to this square. ask your blessings at the statue and ask for luck by releasing the birds.
