nice trip from chiang mai on a realy quiet road. Follow 1317 from Chiang mai (or use backroads like 4063 + 4041) and take well sighnposted turnoff for Kew Fin. in the rivervalley you will see a couple of touristy villages and a waterfall before it gets very steep. On top is this lovely lookout (200m on way to walk) with an almost europaen flair! Very nice.Follow the road down the mountain and return on 1252 to make it a circle
After a short walk from the parking space, we reached amazing panorama of the mountain range with no end in sight. The sky felt so near. Everything was so green. Unreal. It’s worth a detour if you’re on a visit to Mae Kampong or en route to somewhere else.
It is quite a tough road to drive up to Kew Fin Viewpoint but worth all the sweat and time. It is advised to take 4 WD car or local pickup car which cost you around 100-120 THB each (depends on number of passengers).
A little bit difficult to drive up there, but not that impossible to reach. We went there in the afternoon, so it is quiet but is still nice with the cool breeze.
Nice lookout, short 5 min walk from the road along a paved path to the lookout area. Easy walk. There’s a “gazebo” to sit and chill there.
I was told that a stay in Mae Kampong also includes a morning visit to the viewpoint. That’s why we took a shuttle up at 5:30 a.m. OK – the view is beautiful – and the sunrise was also wonderful – but . . . Luckily we were among the first there and were able to see everything from the beginning and enjoy it at first. But then masses of people quickly arrived – everyone wanted to take their pictures and get the best position. So the peace and quiet was over and the enjoyment was over.Nevertheless, the trip was quite nice and we had our nice moments. Back at the starting point there are a few small stands for coffee and small snacks.
A beautiful view awaits you at the top of the mountain …a short drive up from Mae Kampong Village…definitely worth checking out. The air is clean and fresh…a little cooler than below. You can stop at the waterfall on the way back down. This is a great place to take a few pictures…right on the borderline of Chiang Mai and Lampang Provinces.
