  1. The Mae Ngat Dam & Reservoir is a big favourite of mine. I’ve been to 3 of the accomodations now. Best to go when the water is high.

  2. Nice views of the reservoir and surrounding countryside from the top of the dam. Visitors can drive up to the top of the dam and then walk out along the top. Nice place for a quiet visit.

  3. lovely restaurant and playground on the calm waters of the reservoir. good for kayaking. food was great, especially if one calls ahead for the fish. kids loved playing in the small water park next to the restaurant. And the water was pretty calm, always a plus when travelling in a boat.

  4. We took a boat trip on the lake to eat at a restaurant! The facilities are good at many of the “restaurants” including accommodation, water activities and more. There are families that have been granted permission to live on the lake in floating houses which are interesting to see. Most of these families rely on visitors for their income. Worth a visit!

  5. Good place for a day trip. Take a long-tail to one of the floating restaurants and enjoy the afternoon. Best to go during/after the rainy season when the water is high.

  6. A trip to the Mae Nat dam is worth it if you have a few days in Chiang Mai. We hired a private taxi for the day and visited a tea plantation in the morning then took a short drive to the dam. It is possible to walk on the top of the dam but only a short way. As you might expect, there is a small bar/restaurant there if you want to stop and take a break to look at the view The best side to enter the park area is on the West. If you are trekking then you need to pay an entrance fee but if you are just going to sample the restaurants, there is no fee. Don’t be fooled by the vans that say ‘free transport to Eakachai floating restaurant’. The vans that drive you 100m down the hill to the boats may be free but the boats are not! Its just that they charge you as part of your restaurant bill! 600BHT.. Never the less, it’s worth it to take the boat ride across the lake. After about 15 minutes , you almost reach the other side of the dam. Its a place full of small inlets, many of which hide floating houses. It is possible to rent them but make sure you have good neighbours and a kayak as it’s pretty isolated.. The restaurant afforded gorgeous views across the lake and the food was pretty good too. I’d recommend the fish options.. Altogether a really nice day…

  7. An hour’s drive out of central Chiang Mai, Mae Ngat Dam & Reservoir is a typical Thai national park area with plenty of paths to follow. Some beautiful views, particularly when the weather is fine.

  8. We were taken here by out tour guide for lunch. We were dropped in the car park of the national park and where then taken on the back of a pick-up truck down to the waterside where we embarked on a private longboat for a scenic trip of about 20 minutes across the reservoir We were dropped off for lunch at a floating restaurant by the side of the reservoir. We waited a very long time for our food (probably about an hour) – surprising given the restaurant was not that busy. The food was OK but not as good as we experienced elsewhere in Thailand. It was a shame that the nice trip was spoilt by the extremely long wait for the food.

  9. We have been to the dam many times over the years.we have stopped on the floating resorts.we have not been for about 7yrs.we were passing yesterday and thought we would stop for a meal on the side of the dam near where the boats go from.we were stopped at the entrance we had to pay 20baht for thai and 100baht for me(uk lad).to walk 20mtrs to the resturant.so we turned the car round and left. Its a shame another place to forget about .nothing like before.
