  1. I did not enjoy a visit here as there is very little to see compared to other Chinese Thai villages I have visited. It is not really worth the effort.

  2. Arunothai is a small village close to the Burmese border with Chinese looks. There are quite some shops and you can get excellent noodle soup. When you drive down from Doi Ang Khang towards Chiang Dao on route 1340/1178 (or up to Doi Ang Khang) you pass through Arunothai and it is well worth a stop.

  3. A small town with yunan descendents whom can speak mandarin. If got time, get up early morning to visit the morning market. Also visit the wanton noodle stall…

  4. If you happen to travel north from ChiangMai beyond ChiangDao, the small town of Arunothai is worth a stopover to experience the progressive transformation of the vastly refugees’ village into a small town. I went there first in 2006, when I was told by the locals that the population was around 10,000. There is a good mix of ethnic diversity comprising local tribal minority and large number of Chinese migrating from Yunnan Province in China and bordering Myanmar. The population number has now been more than doubled in a short decade. While it is still relatively undeveloped, the signs of transformation is apparent especially with the ATM machine and first 7-Eleven being introduced into the small town recently. Best time to visit is early Friday morning between 6:30 to 9am where the local bazaar is bustling with petty traders selling lots of colourful local produce and delicacies. Early morning view in December is almost always misty with enshrouding beautiful mountains in the back drop. The recommended motel is Long Chang Hotel, a 2-star hotel which is relatively new and well maintained. It is very affordable at approximately 800 Thai Bahts per night per room in December. The local Bazaar is a short 10 to 15 minutes walk from the motel. The recommended restaurant to try is TaYong Yunnan Noodle Restaurant. The fried dumpling is worth trying.Unexpected but Interesting artistic 9 panels colourful wall painting depicting the Biblical stories can be seen at the perimeter fence of En Hui School situated next to a huge church not far from Long Chang Hotel. A one day visit would be sufficient. This is only for those who want to travel in leisure with time to appreciate simplicity and small transforming villages with beautiful natural setting.

  5. Worth a visit for lunch. On the road from Chiang Dao and a visit to the hot springs and waterfall drive further north to this village. Turn left at the T junction for the famous noodle shop TaYong Yunnan Noodle. It has a big red banner outside. They don’t speak English but look at the banner with pictures of different noodle dishes written in Thai and English. Tick the dish on the order sheet on each table and hand to waiter. Delicous and very good value. Smiles cost extra!!!

  6. This place is a yunnan Chinese town on the border of Burma. Visit on Friday, the market is between, 6AM and noon, amazing, little bit outside the town center towards th and Burmese border.

  7. We passed there on our way from Mae Salong to Chiang Dao, and decided to stop there for the famous noodle soup. I feed the Gps with the Ta Yong shop. All six of us had very good dishes, I would rate it 5 stars for this kind of food. Apparently, the staff was a bit rude at first, but didn’t notice that myself, as I was still busy getting the car out of the street. It was only when we left when I noticed the banner from Ta Yong shop. It was closed that day, but I doubt the could have made it much better.

  8. I reviewed this restaurant back in April 17. I revisited again in Nov 18. I cannot understand why I originally only gave it 3 stars. I detest people who write nonsense like awesome and to die for in reviews but these noodles are the best I have ever tasted. Same order process look at pictures and write your order down and take to the counter. You even get smiles now!

  9. Good simple noodles and Sui-kow at the Tayong noodle restaurant. They also have their local chinese butter cake and red-bean paste filled cake. Nice. After lunch we drove to the Myanmar border. The area is filled with corn fields. To the north (right) the range of hills are Myanmar. Then at the Thai checkpoint we turned back.
