This temple is less known than other temples in the district, and you have good chances to be the only visitor as it is still quite local and confidential. It may need a renovation, but it’s really charming. I highly recommend that temple !
The temple is located close to Phanomrung. It is quite new ( less than 100 years ), but architecture combined with the great panorama view is charming. Furthermore in the temple they have several steles dating back to the 8th century. Very calm, and normally only frequented by locals.
Wat Khao Angkhan Temple has all the ingredients for success since it incorporated various religious Buddhist images from different ages. The site itself is also compact with various interesting areas to explore. There are even English text written on the temple walls. However with the isolated location and the lack of direction for the general public, the site is rather difficult to reach. Even with our navigation system, we had to stop and asked the local for direction. There are few dogs to confront with when visit the place. They simply bark and nothing more. Allow 60 minute minimum for exploring the site.
worth the effort to get to , i drove myself there , its partly signposted but typical in Thailand the critical moment no sign ! stop and ask .about 10km from Phanom Rung or 20 mins by car as some dirt road .head straight through the stone works…hold a steady course..! concrete road continues uphill.Good views when pollution low (after rain )avoid Buddha events !

We found this temple by accident when tray to find interesting places. But overall I had to give this a average the time you can spent is around max 1/2 houw not longer. During are visit the monks where cleaning the weed. Take a look to the add photo’s. If you are close to this place than I will say go and see but otherwise not go for only to see this Temple.
We came here and was surprised how quiet it was. We liked huge reclining Buddha and the temple itself is a wonderful place to see. Recommended.
There were several buildings with beautiful artwork. There was a lovely view to the surrounding forest.
The temple is lovely, the paintings inside are beautiful and the view from the top is lovely. In addition, they are constructing a huge reclining Buddha. So why aren’t I giving 5 stars?There’s some ugly construction on the way up. The road is not properly paved. There is no maintenance of the grounds and there’s weeds, mud and mosquitoes. Worth a trip if you ignore the ugly surroundings.
