  1. It wasn’t an easy task to reach these Tunnels but it was well worth the trip. Upon arrival, it seemed quite secluded as the tunnels were in the middle of a forest. The owner of the site was a very nice man by the name of Lee who gave me a quick run down about how the tunnels were used as shelter from bombs from enemy planes. The place had a very eerie vibe to it but was also fascinating to learn what had happened there. Lee was also very kind enough to drive me back to a nearby city of Songkhla where caught a bus back to Hat Yai.Overall an enjoyable day trip and would recommend for any travelers in the South of Thailand to visit.

  2. I came to here long time ago with my family. I was very surprise for the creative room in the cave for the soldier in the part.

  3. This place is far from songkhla city and slightly run down on their facilities. However, it is indeed an educational trip and we learn a lot from the one of the members who tells us vividly how he spend his time fighting in the past. Otherwise, it is good place to visit. But not recommended for kids and old ppl as u need to climb the stairs down which the steps are fairly high in the tunnel.

  4. If you are hoping to see something similar with Cu Chi tunnel in Vietnam, you will be disappointedFirstly, non Thai visitors will be charged 150 baht instead of 40 baht the locals pay, which is not a lot but still enough to make you a little uncomfortable. Then as you walk into the tunnel, you will see many photos, but not many descriptions, so you really have to do a lot of guess work to get the big picture. I can read Chinese, (which is the language most of the signs are written in) but i still didn’t know how these Malaysian communists ended up in Thailand, and how they gave up arms. Also, the site isn’t preserved historically accurate, many modifications which were not used back in the day are quite obvious. The weapons and other daily equipment used by the communist guerrillas are scattered with little care and no info. At least tell me the model of the gun, please?

  5. These tunnels, are somewhat similar– but much less extensive than those found in Betong– (located in South Eastern Thailand)!! This “oft overlooked” conflict is a very interesting chapter describing the Malaysian, Thai and British relationship about 65 years ago!! For “History Buffs” this is very worthwhile– but the displays are “sadly lacking” in English Language descriptions!!

  6. As a history buff I enjoyed visiting this tunnel complex very much. It is less developed and not as well taken care of compared to the Piyamit Tunnels near Betong. This tunnel complex was used by troops of the Communist Party of Malaya in their fight against their government in the 1970s and 80s. The setting is really beautiful. It was quite a drive to get there (I came from Betong) but worth it.

  7. Located inside the Khao Nam Khang National Park, these tunnels, built in the 1970s, were used as hideout by armed members of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) until the conclusion of the 1989 peace agreement. They were turned into a tourist attraction in1997 by a former member of the CPM. After viewing the video presentation and the small museum, explore the tunnels as well as the various structures in the open. There is a small restaurant as well as clean toilets.

  8. Just rode there to scout but will do it again on the next ride to venture in. Based from tourist who went in they say it was a good experience and it’s cooling. The road leading there passes through rubber plantations and small village with very minimum traffic. If one is heading there from Malaysia try using the Kota Putera check point as the traffic flow could be lighter than using the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint. Before reaching the Cave one could drop by the forest reserve waterfall along the way clear cooling mountain stream if its not raining. If you’re heading to Dannok you Coul stop by the The Good View Restaurant by the lake.

  9. If you have been to the Piyamit Tunnel in Betong, this is quite similar. The museum is less detailed and the exits have bats. The tunnel is longer. We enjoyed this but because this is in a national park, there is a double-tier pricing.
