10 thoughts on “Ao-Koei Beach Muay Thai Camp

  1. This is the private camp of trainer Solo Belmondo. The nature all around is wild and amazing, and it is far from the tourists cities. You live with the local people in an authentic and traditional beach community. The training method is absolutely the best I have ever came across. If you want to fully transform yourself, this is the place. It is familial and very personal, with a very small-group policy. I am glad a place like this exists. Not for mass-tourists or people looking for a fake thrill

  2. If you want to be far from tourists, and live like a local in true Thailand, this is the absolute hidden gem. This is also where I found the highest level of boxing and muay thai training available for visiting athletes in Thailand.

  3. If you are passionate about the sport, this program is finaly right. Solo is the kind of trainer you meet once in your life: no fake, no secrets, true knowledge, true method. What you can learn with him in one month can be worth years of training. But you need to want it! During training, the Thai masters will speak to you in Thai language, and Solo will be there to translate as well. So you get a mix of precise directives and old-school Thailand science. As well, the camp’s very-small group policy allows you to have huge one-on-one time with the trainers, something I couldn’t find anywhere else in any other camp. Now the camp itself is on a virgin beach. You live literally among the locals. The waterfalls are only populated with Thai kids and families. When you go to the barber shop, or to the market or to the little restaurants, people don’t try to sell you things or charge you more etc. Day and night with Phuket and Kao-Lak etc.Ao-Koei beach is a “rogue” paradise: It’s untamed, and its full of colorful people. Its amazing just like this and they all keep it 1000% real! I will be back!

  4. I cannot recommend this Gym enough! Everybody I met, became a lifelong Friend. Training there was a life changing event for me;the echoes of which still resonates to this day, in aspects beyond Martial arts.Solo is a creative, and sometimes crazy genius, and my life has been enriched by spending time at the Gym, and having him as a friend. If anyone is considering going there? My advice is DO IT !! You’ll never be the same for the BETTER!

  5. I spent 15 days at the camp of trainer Solo, together with my cousin. It was an amazing experience in a real Thai community with wonderfull people and a beautiful beach. Solo is a special unique Trainer who sees whats the best for u to work on and pushes you to your best to reach a higher level of boxing and Muay Thai. He is a really good teacher and we learned a lot from him in this two weeks. He combines Muay Thai training with box training and teaches you whats the best way to train by your own. Also the thai trainers have been amazing teachers to us – always with a smile they show you there own technique and skills and work hard with you. If you are really motivated and ready to train intense and if you want to meet locals and like cultural exchange this is the best place for you.I would always recommend this camp and hope i can go back soon.

  6. Great people, lovely community, very good training, amazing food, beautiful landscape. This camp allows you to combine very good training according to the goals you are willing to achieve as well as a very quiet and relaxing place located only a couple hundreds of killometres from the busy island of Phuket.Careful : every insect is minimum twice as big as the ones i have in France, cold shower, no wifi!Only the true warriors will achieve the camp and leave ao koei much stronger phisically and mentally as when they arrived there.

  7. I feel so blessed to have experianced training under Ajarn Solo and to have experianced such an authentic taste of rural Thailand. The community at Ao-Koei is so inviting and warm, as two solo traveling women we felt safe and supported. The training provided gave us wonderfully new techniques and enhanced our fitness levels. Each night we were provided with a baquent of traditional Thai food, which was AMAZING! Big thanks to Solo and the Ae-Koei Community for inviting us in and treating us as if we where locals ourselves. I look forward to visiting again!

  8. I have been training at a few Muay Thai camps in Thailand for about 4 years when my friend told me I should go to Solo’s Gym if I wanted to step up my game.First day of training with Solo, it was WOW! discovering a whole new world of knowledge in Muay Thai and boxing that I did not even suspect existed. This is where you realize how much you need a trainer who is fluent in your language to explain to you all the subtleties of the game, but also someone with his own proven methodology and a vision, and someone who is going to force you to progress. Solo is hands down a class above of all the trainers I ever had.As for the camp itself, it is on a beautiful beach, and unspoiled by tourism yet. People smile to you and are happy to see you. I met a few other like minded athletes there, we rented motorbikes, and explored the surrounding: Gorgeous waterfalls, rivers, beaches, jungle treks, all this completely off-the-beaten-path.The food was a lavish buffet every day. Soul food (Thai style) made at home by a darling girl who is passionate about cooking and is scared that if you don’t finish it all it means that you didn’t like it. What else could you ask!So overall, you train in a very small group. You are literally training in a trainer’s home, just like in the old days and it is in the old Thailand too, among the Thai people who live there. If you are passionate about the sport, and want to avoid the commercial treatment, then Solo’s gym is the place you should visit in Thailand. Maybe go sooner than later, because I doubt that it will stay like this for long. Well worth buying the plane ticket just for that and go home.

  9. This place has something special. Far for the insane tourism attractions this place is really worth to stop by for a unforgettable camp. – the place is hidden from the fast Thailand urban life. And meanwhile you can by motor bike get back to “civilization “ . So you will find serenity, calm and nature all around. You’ll be waking up at sunrise and enjoy one the last endless immaculate stunning beach for your daily jogging.-then the morning training: Solo is a real expert of the “sweet science”. He knows how to break down your technic and make you work on it to improve your best weapons and at the same time correct you, reveal your bad habits so that you can move on to the next level. Then it only gets tougher;)… the training is hardcore and that’s what you came here to get. So like in everything “you get what you bring”. If you’re motivated, this is the camp for you. -other Thailand masters will help you to develop your muai thaï skills like in no camp I have done in the Chang Mai, Bangkok or Phuket… I’ve done quiet a few ;)Then will be time to eat the delicious food made by local people especially for you. You’ll have the time to relax enjoy the shadows of your bungalow and get in touch with yourself. I really had a unique moment there. I have found peace during those afternoons…something to do with the place itself, the training, the friendship and smile of the staff. During the afternoon many young locals come to train in the camp and that the beauty of it. It’s free and open for them. So meanwhile, thanks to you, you’re really helping the community of the village and surroundings. What a joy to see all those youngsters dedicate to the craft and working their butt off. Next is your afternoon training…. take a deep breath and let’s go. You’ll get in the ring, do rounds after rounds. And apply what you’ve practice in the morning. Here is the real work. solo expertise and experience, tips and encouragement from the Thailand masters will push your limits. There is many other things that can’t be explain in words because you just have to live it. I have loved those moments at the Ao-Koei Beach and under the rain in Paris France now, I wish I could have the chance that you could maybe have to get there and train. Special thanks to everybody at Ao-Koei beach camp for the support, the wonderful time, those challenging trainings, the knowledge they passed on to me and a real special thanks to Solo for what he made with the camp he build from scratch! Take care and see you soon!

  10. This is a hand-made, home-made gym: it has a soul, a vibe that is special. But its also the home of one of the most excellent teachers you will ever meet. I tried more than a few muay thai camps, and basically what you get is a pad work that is more or less sophisticated, some small advice here and there, a big smile and a few jokes, but other than that, good luck trying to go in depth into the workings of this martial art. But training with Solo is a game-changer. Solo’s honesty with the knowledge, along with his dedication to transmit it, forces respect. Also knowing what Thailand has become in the last 10 years, it was so refreshing and inspiring to see a place with no frontier between foreigners and local Thais. The Thai trainers are also amazing at complementing the training with hard practice. There are a dozen beach bungalows right next to the gym where you sleep to the sound of the waves crushing on the shore. No A/C, no Wi-Fi, no hot water… but I used tethering off my phone with a Thai sim card, and I was able to work online. A/C was not really needed anyway (nights are fresh). This camp is about Substance and Individuality, not Commerce & Uniformity (so its for the very small minority of us, you guessed it! You will avoid here a certain crowd, which is sweet). It’s the place to cut-off from the world and make a big reset. Hope this review helps you and this camp.
