This is a cave with stalagmites and stalactites, and also drawings, that you can see in a day light. You visit this during kayaking in Bor Thor. It is a nice place, but there are other similar caves in Krabi.
We went kayaking with some friends to the caves and really enjoyed it. We did a 2,5hours trip through the beautiful mangrove forest. The cave are really worth it with huge stalagmites and old painting. Our tour guide was really nice and spoke an excellent english. He explained us really well the tour and was enjoying his job. Please contact Chok Thara Travel as they are really good. Ask for “Man” it was our tour guide.
We were here as part of out half day kayaking activity. During kayaking you get to pass through a cave with a stoppage at this cave. There are some old paintings visible and some stalagmites and stalactites with which you can click some pictures and move on with the kayaking.I will not recommend a specific travel only for these though.
This was included in our kayaking itinerary. The main attraction I would say. It was called the Bor thor(may be spelled wrongly) kayaking trip. Cave paintings can be found all around the cave. Apparently the dwellers few thousands years ago painted them using animal blood. The guide told us that the scatterings of clam and oyster shells on the floor was a result of the dwellers discarding the clams after eating them. I really have no idea if he was saying the truth or just throwing me BS, because if that was the truth, there must be either thousands of people cramped into the small cave or solely survived on clams for at least a few thousand years. The shells literally filled the floor of the whole cave.
You will visit these caves if you have chosen the Kayaking tour in Au Luek. It is the first stop of the day and the guide let us spend about an hour in these caves. The caves have some nice formations and can make for some interesting photo opportunities 🙂 The guide will also talk about the history of the caves and show you the ancient drawings made on the roof of the caves. On end of the cave there is a view point, but frankly, the view from there is not that great. Never the less the cave itself is nice and we enjoyed this visit.
you can do this trip on your own, no need to book a tour. just show up at the bor thor pier, rent a kayak and off you go to visit up to 4 caves (depending on the level of the tide…arrive in the morning, because in the afternoon the tide will be too low to access all the caves!!)the caves are stunningly beautiful, there is a cave with prehistoric paintings, then there is a lagoon cave and others. highly recommended!!we made this trip 3 times in between 4 years, so much we like it here 🙂 last time we went we rented a kayak and a guide came with us, free of charge, because we rented the kayak from his family business.
We showed up at Bor Tor. Within a few minutes we had arranged a kayak trip to this cave and the nearby Tham Lod. We used the Bung-Ann shop. The kayak was paddled by a very kind young lady who also guided us around this cave. Both of the caves are very interesting to see. I would strongly recommend the kayak trip over the long tail boat version – the lack of engine noise is such a blessing.
Kayaking trip in Bor Thor village we can see Sea cave with stalactites ,cave with painting about 3,000 year old ,mangrove forest, Limestone cliffs, fish farm,Oyesters farm.. by Chok Thara Travel Original company
A visit here must be coupled with visiting other caves in the area. A stop here will only take 30 minutes at most including a walk on the mangrove boardwalk. The key thing is that if you come here you need to visit the other caves. We kayaked here as part of a tour and its the second cave we visited. There are a lot of rock paintings from a people group no longer living there and that is the difference between this cave and others. On google it is Phi Hua To cave and you can find it there. Come her with Krabi Nature Group. I also have another review on the Than Bok Khorani National Park on other details and costing.
Bor Thor kayaking was a fantastic excursion, I was worried it would be overcrowded – it wasn’t! We were in a group of 4 and we also saw the Nature Group, with 7 pp, and a couple other groups. But it seemed like the guides were talking to each other to stagger people going thru the caves to ensure we got photos with no other tourists in them! Really appreciated. Our guide Mr Sakyoowong let us into the cave one by one to ensure it was quiet. The kayaking isn’t difficult but your arms start feeling it towards the end (we did half day incl lunch for 1000 baht per person – fried rice with chicken & fruit). Our guide was so funny and relaxed with great English! We booked thru Krabi Fasai Tour and highly recommend. We used the tour stand in front of the Family Mart near Holiday Inn express (turn left from the driveway towards Ao Nang, it’s 1 min from the driveway). Price incl national park fee. You are in full sun most of the time so cover up. I wore a rashie and water booties as you do step in water getting on and off kayak at cave. We paddled thru a cave, walked through another and paddled into a lagoon. You see lots of mangroves and the guide pointed out mud crabs and mudskippers. Great day excursion! Highly recommend as it’s different to island hopping! Haven’t done Ao Thalane but would like to.
