Went there today with friends from Denmark and what an experience we all had. We didn’t know what to expect, but was overwhelmed from the moment we arrived. Was seated on a very lovely small patio and were offered tasting of their product The Issan Rum. David the owner turned up and gave us the full story behind his business and a tour so we could see for us self how they make the Rum. The hole experience was fantastic and as we said to each other, while sitting there enjoying their product , it had made our day. Thank you David for taking time to give us a fantastic experience. And greetings to your lovely staff as well !
Stopped here on the way to Nong Khai and really glad we did. Very interesting how David is slowly building the business with a top quality natural product. Beautiful serene place where the super friendly host served up a taste of his product. Really refreshing with lime. Bought 3 bottles for my Rum drinking friends. Off the beaten track but definitely worth a visit. Wish you every success David
David gave us a great tour of his distillery and explained the whole process, which they do completely themselves from the growing of the sugar cane to the bottling. He’s got a lovely deck area overlooking a pond for some tastings and an opportunity to buy a bottle as a souvenir. A great afternoon!
As a start up business and family own business, it is very interesting to visit and to learn a simple (detail) making of rum. It is located about 5 miles (?) before reaching the city of Nong Khai. It is a bit out of the main highway but you can use GPS to get to the place. The rum has not been widely distributed in Thailand and local bar but was mainly sent abroad to Europe (according to the owner). It is a decent rum (of course not on par with established rum companies). Before getting to Nong Khai, stop by to taste a special cocktail and buy a bottle to support small business and sugarcane growers.
Stopped there today on the way back from Nongkhai and really liked the place. It was a bit difficult to find but worth. Very interesting the processing of this natural product where we could see all the stages of process. So many People find a work. The rum ist really excellent and I bought 2 bottles of it. Was yesterday there with the family of my girlfriend and it was an amazing place with an amazing view!!! It’s really nice to see how it’s produced and the taste is very good. All people were very hospitable. There was simply a very relaxed atmosphere. After tasting the rum I directly bought 6 bottles and looking forward to buy more. Keep up the good job! And for people who passing Nong Khai it’s absolutely a must to see it.I visited a lot rum distilleries in my life but this is one is so nice because they receive you as a friend and they really do this with pleasure instead of money driven mind! Keep this up
Out of the blue you see a place of interest on Trip Advisor, out of the way, hard to find but well worth the trip. Great passion from an awesome host. Will come next time when they are actually making rum (Nov).
the distillery is quite far off the city at some small countryside road. map is correct, though the building looks like a living home.not much to see how the rum is distilled, but you can try the rum. i got a small glass pure rum and a glass with lime, sugar and ice. the first one is much better than any white rum (e.g. baccardi) and the later is really good to drink on a hot day.they have 2 bottle sizes: 70 cl and 33 cl. the big one is quite cheaper than the half bottle. anyway cheaper than buying the imported rum/
The Issan Rum Distillery is a compact, casual and comfortable place, one can check out, on the outskirts of town, while in and or nearby Nong Khai. I chose to do a brief technical tour of the alcohol manufacturing and storage facilities, before sampling the local product. As a former bar manager (as well as a continuing student of alcoholic beverages …) myself, I found the short but sweet back story information, provided by the friendly hosts, to be informative and entertaining. I am also glad that I chose to do a ‘taste tester’ set, ‘lakeside’ by the small bar overlooking the dam, too. And if you are wondering, how was the sugar cane spirit (?), well I am happy to advise that I did purchase a bottle for takeaway, so yes, I do feel it is a high quality (and quite strong) white rum. A great little spot (see my YouTube), that I reckon can be positively categorised as another one of the Isaan region’s many hidden gems.
While taking a time out in Nong Khai, we look for out of the way places to explore. To our luck trip adviser pointed us to the right place. Easy to find using google maps, short drive from the river walk. Arriving from the dirt road you see the naturally enhanced landscape, empeckable views of a natural pond. Shaded areas with cosey sitting areas. Lek the Host, 0wner and distiller greeted us with a smile. First offering was a great cup of freashly ground bean coffee. Next came the famous Issan Rum, we were not disappointed. With the friendly company of another guest from France (living in Thailand 21 years) the mid-morning was a treat. Highly Recommend a visit on your trip to Nong Khai.
