Wachi Ra Long Kon Dam is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thailand
The correct spelling should be Vajiralongkorn Dam or sometime the local residences call it the Khao Laem Dam. Being the western dam in Kanchanaburi and the further one from the town, it provides a very good escape for visitors seeking solitude specially spending a night on the floating raft in the dam. The beautiful nature, wonderful sunset and twilight, open sky with Milky Way spread across the sky and wake up with virgin surrounding of the new day are more than one can dream for. Highly recommend to spend a night in this wonderful dam.
The views from the top of the Dam are amazing and very beautiful. Watch out for the local troupe of monkeys though..
Nice views but nothing spectacular, I would avoid visiting around mid-day as there is no place offering cover from the sun
Worth visiting if it’s a part of bigger tour of the area. Cars are allowed to go up to to top of main dam, from where there are very good views over hills and the lake. Just down, there is a picturesque flower garden worth stopping by for few photos. Free of charge for all visitors.
Vajiralongkorn Dam is beautiful. We drove to the top of the dam for the views. Then we drove down to the dam view point. We also stopped at the skywalk near the restaurant.
Vajiralongkorn Dam is a symbol of Thong Pha Phum District And is another place that is full of the beauty of the lake view. Kanchanaburi area in front of the dam There will be a garden decorated as a shrub that is beautiful, can drive up to see the view around the dam. Free of charge to visit The view on the dam On one side will be next to a steep rocky mountain. The view at the dam It will be a picture of a large reservoir. The emerald green water is very beautiful and is considered a good resting place.
Even those who (like me) are opposed to dams that inundate forests, submerge biodiversity, and force the relocation of local people, the Vajiralongkorn Dam is an impressive engineering fete and fascinating to visit. Also known as the Khao Laem Dam, the Vajiralongkorn Dam (named for the current Thai monarch) was built in the late 1970s and created the huge Khao Laem Lake reservoir, flooding nearly 40,000 hectares. The dam is 92 meters in height and blocks the flow of the Kwai Noi River. Water from the reservoir powers three 100 MW turbines at full power production. Visitors can drive to the dam crest and across the top of the dam. Views from the dam crest are quite spectacular. There is no charge for visiting the dam and access is relatively easy after passing the perimeter security station.
