  1. We took a speed boat from Ko Lipe to find a more relaxing and out there island. Ko Bulon delivered. We stayed at Bulon Resort. Bit expensive – but great staff and location. Food in resort was ok. The island had one of the finest stretches of sandy beach we have found in the andaman. Very authentic island, local fishing population and very under commercialised. Fantastic compared to Ko Lipe. Best bit other than beach was renting a long boat for the day and visiting a the islands in the group. Great snorkelling and some beUtiful remote spots.

  2. My 2 daughters and I stayed at the Pansand Hotel for 3 nights. Our accommodation was a few steps from the beautiful white sand beach, with all sorts of birds (including hornbills) in the trees around us. The hotel and staff were very friendly and we found the food not only excellent (barracuda in a tamarind sauce was my favourite) but very reasonably priced. We enjoyed either sitting overlooking the beach or on the lawn in front of the hotel. The island is very small and takes nor more than 15-20 minutes to walk to the other side, during which time you walk past the bar dedicated to Bob Marley – a must for a stop for a beer or cocktail served up by the delightful owner. It is difficult to describe just how peaceful and beautiful this island and long may it last. Please do not develop in the way that other islands have gone – leave this little piece of paradise just as it is.

  3. So there are a few little niggles.I was camping at the front of the school on the beach, and a guy connected to the school wanted 50 baht. It’s always free to camp on any beach in Thailand because the king owns it. Anyway, I paid without arguing because it’s just 50 baht. I think the idea behind the charge might be that you then get access to their toilet facilities, behind the school. The nature trail leading off to the left as you are walking up the hill is disused and impassable after walking for about 1 minute. There are a lot of resident westerners here, they seem to all be from Sweden and there is even a massage place offering Swedish massages, whatever that involves I have no idea. It’s not really a bad thing, perhaps it could get a little cliquey (if you aren’t Swedish). On to the good stuff. It’s a very quiet island. The beaches are beautiful, the snorkelling is better than I read it would be and better than Ngai and Kradan in my opinion. The nature and amount of animals is very good for such a small island.Food isn’t as overpriced as on Ngai or Kradan, you can get mains starting from 70 baht.I’d definitely come back.

  4. I enjoyed spending two days on Koh Bulon Leh. There’s actually nothing to do but to go to one of the beaches (Ao Panka Yai, Ao Panka Noi, main beach) and enjoy the scenic view. I spent most of my time on the main beach in front of the Pansand Resort where the sand is white and soft and where the water is crystal clear. There’s no rubbish on the beach and there are only few tourists as far as I can say. In comparison to other islands Bulon is very peaceful and quiet. My accommodation was Chaolae Homestay viewing Ao Panka Yai. Note that it is a 15 minute and partly very steep walk from Pansand Resort or Marina Resort (where the Longtail boats can drop you off) to Chaolae Homestay and other budget accommodations. Keep that in mind and prepare yourself for the exhausting walk if you have heavy luggage to carry. To get directions to Ao Panka Yai and Ao Panka Noi just ask the friendly staff at the Pandsand Resort reception.

  5. One of the places in Thailand were the chaotic tourists did not reach yet. Very quite , ideal for couples or in case of group of friends I won’t suggest to stay more than 2 days. The island is small and depending from the wind season you must be careful on the side where to stay.In April the wind blows from west so our choice to be on the sunrise side was perfect. The beach on the east side is beautiful with a rich vegetation that slides on the beach and give a nice shadow during the hot hours of the day.

  6. Lovely island…beach amazing…better after 1pm when the tide comes in…really quiet but still people bobbing about…everyone friendly……loads of eaterys….bars too….stay at beach side as jungle path is steep and very tiring in the hot weather little bit more expensive but cheaper that home!! Brill

  7. There are other quiet islands in Thailand, with very little development, that are much nicer than this one. And with much nicer quality of resorts and restaurants and good prices. Having been to Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai and Koh Kood, those islands are relatively unspoiled but have much better beaches and are incredibly more beautiful.I found Bulon to be a very average island with resorts charging high prices which are not good value. You’d be better of going to those other islands I mentioned, you’d likely save money on accommodation and still be on breathtakingly beautiful beaches with not many tourists around, but a lot more quality of service at the resorts and restaurants.

  8. I just came back from the “nature trail” and thought to give some update about the condition of it. It starts opposite “Coconut bar” which at time of writing, it’s closed. I was eager to do some jungle trekking on this beautiful island and tried to do some web research. Some reviews here say something here in this post but all is too old and out of reality. Neither asking some locals helped me to find out how the trail look like. One local man told me that it has not been maintained for many years so it is likely that the jungle consumed the trail. So I went to check the state of it myself. Right at the beginning at the Coconut bar, the trail looks quite bushy. In about 100m I the trail looks like it ends and there is no way further. I pushed through bush and discovered the trail continues. It definitely wasn’t cleaned up for a while. There were few points where I couldn’t find the way forward. After bit of struggles I got to the end of Cape and climb down the cliff to get back to the main beach. If you are adventurous then put long hiking trousers and sturdy shoes and go to explore.

  9. This is what I envisioned when I first started dreaming of Thailand… only this was better. There are trails that will take you through the center of the island and to the other bays where you’ll find bars and restaurants scattered…this is truly paradise.

  10. I enjoyed a lot my stay at Koh Bulon. It is a very small island with friendly people. Also the food was delicious (Mango Bay).
