This is the very big and beautiful dam in Thailand. It is perfect scenery during the way to Northeast of Thailand.
The Dams Electric plant gets water, to the Turbines, from a mountain near by, that hold a treasure on the top.This treasure is water, that is lead through, two major pipes, that drives the turbines at the plant below the mountain…
If you drive /go here, then remember to bring your swimsuit… A LOT of turtles in the dam… in the end of the dam, where the outlet is placed.TAKE CARE in low water level !!!BIG stones under water surface !!!NO headjumps !!!
We drove from Bangkok. And even before reaching korat, why not stop and relax here first and enjoy its beauty. The stunning view will definitely relax you.
Lamthakhong is quite a long ways in from the highway. When you get there you’re welcomed with a view of a very very lake that seems to go on forever. We did not venture toward the actual dam and hydro generators because that was not what we came for. We came for peace, quiet and a little fishing.The area is surrounded by rolling hills coming right down into the lake and there are little gazebo type rest areas right beside the water. Air was fresh and cooling.The dam provides water and irrigation for hundreds of farms in the area and also clean drinking water. Some places we were told were very deep so we didn’t chance swimming. Don’t think it was allowed anyway.Good place for peace, quiet and a romantic picnic…
The vista point is beautiful. The parking is adequate. The restrooms are good. We stoped about 20 minutes.
What came one say, nice place to have a break or a quick visit.Lacking in amenities, but nice to stop and take in the sights
