Wat Khao Rup Chang is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thailand
Wat Khao Rup Chang or Temple of the Elephant Hill (about 15 kms south of the provincial centre) might be one of Phichit’s most famous attractions but we always associate this quiet (though not so well tended) temple with the caged animals including bears in front of the naga stairs. Given that Buddhism’s first precept is to refrain from killing or harming living creatures, both humans and non-humans alike, it’s rather pathetic that years after our first visit, the animals are still there suffering. On the positive side, the hilltop golden chedi affords decent views of the evergreen countryside.
