Elephant Sanctuary Day ?Both adults rescued from a life of performing, Baby “Sunday” 3years old was also rescued by the team @elephantgreenhillproject It was a special day to feed, walk and play with these majestic animals ? feeling somber and fortunate to be there but mostly relief that these guys can enjoy what they were meant to do and not being kept in the circus or made to be street performers anymore. Yes they are are not set free in the wild but the life they have seems exactly what they should, their watchers are always keeping an eye 24/7 to protect them from poachers, all in all i think they would be very thankful roaming this sanctuary. #elephantgreenhillproject #elephantnaturepark #dontbuyivory @ Elephant Green Hill Project
For those who love elephants and appreciate that they need to be cared for, this is the place to visit. The staff who own and run the sanctuary look after visitors and clearly care for the elephants. We had the opportunity to feed, bathe and trek with these gorgeous animals.A must if visiting Chiang Mai!
Such a fantastic place, guide was really informative and knowledgeable, staff all really care about the elephants welfare, would highly recommend
My husband and I looked for a cruelty free elephant sanctuary for our short stay in Chiang Mai while we were in Thailand. We had read horror stories of “sanctuaries” that still poked and hurt the animals but luckily this was nothing like that! We were picked up from our hotel along with 2 other couples. Before arriving to the camp we were played a short video on how to properly feed the animals and interact with them; no hugging or kissing and definitely no riding. Once there, we were offered cookies, coffee, tea, and water. Patrick, our guide, who was funny and wanted to make us feel as comfortable as possible, gave us a lesson on how to tell male/female apart, how old they are, and the difference between African and Chinese elephants. He also showed us some pictures of abused elephants to know the severity of the mistreatment. It was very informational. We were given clothes to change into and began with our day. We prepared the food for the elephants, fed them, then went on a short hike that ended at their watering hole. We then had a prepared lunch where we were taught how to make a dish, it was simple but very delicious! After lunch we prepared more food and got to play in the water with them and cover them in mud to help them cool off. We changed and ended the day with some local tea and food. We were, again, able to help in the preparation of the snacks. It was a very interactive and informational day. We were given much background on the elephants and the work that Green Hill does for them. It was very fun to be so hands on in so many ways. My husband and I found it a very rewarding day that we would recommend to anyone who goes to Chiang Mai!
This is a great alternative to the typical elephant experience. Cruelty, pain, and exploitation free. Nothing here but love and lots of snacks!
Em was a fantastic host and guide during our visit to the elephant sanctuary. My partner and I looked hard to find a sanctuary that was truly ethical (no riding, no hooks, no tying them up etc.) and we were very pleased with this one. It was obvious that the elephants were very well looked after (and very well fed!) Thank you to Em who made the day great, including taking photos on all of our phones for Instagram!
We made a last minute reservation at their office and we absolutely loved it. The people there really care about these majestic creatures, there is no violence at all, you feel welcomed in their home and have so much fun watching them running in the jungle, eating, playing in the water. We prepared some vitamin balls for them, chopped off some trees to feed them, had an amazing Thai lunch prepared by the extremely nice and welcoming staff. However, the best part of the day is definitely bathing them in the mud, then in the water. You can really tell they are happy animals, even though they had a difficult life. If you are looking for an elephant park, this is it. We are definitely going back when Sunday, the 4year old elephant, grows old.
I can’t say enough good things about this project! I felt like a kid again, in awe of the power and playfulness of the elephants, and splashing about their pools. Our guide Mew was super fun, funny, and thoughtfully answered all our questions. The staff here all worked together cooking, taking photos, or doing set up. The mahouts clearly cared for the elephants, communicated well with them, and enjoyed having visitors – just beware during mud and water fights! Everything was according to schedule, all beasts and humans were well-fed, and we had a nice nap in the van going back into town. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who can hike up a steep hill!
