Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 72 Siri Mangkalajarn Road Nimmana Haeminda 13, 50200, Thailand
A wonderful example of a private museum packed to the rafters with interesting specimens and information. Would highly recommend!
I’ve lived in the Nimman area for more than four years, and the museum has never been open at this location. They’ve moved out to the Samoeng Loop, a few kms out of Mae Rim, and it’s certainly worth a visit that there, if you have transport.
Enter the museum and behold: 2 floors packed with specimens and curiosities that you’ll never see anywhere else in the world. This museum has something for everyone: six+ toed chicken feet, the celebration of scientist’s life work, a mosquito embroidered shirt, art, elephant dung, poetry, and rocks galore. The museum also chronicles Dr Rampa and Manop’s study and categorization of Thailand’s 450 individual mosquito species and their impact to human health. However, mosquitos are just a fraction of what you’ll discover inside this magnificent menagerie and homage to the natural world. Well worth the entry fee for an hour to observe this amazing, mosquito-power couple’s collection.
This museum IS open in the location indicated, it just appears closed unless you stand around waiting at the locked gate long enough for the lady working there to be bothered to show up. She’s not very friendly. As for the exhibit, I don’t get the lavish praise from a lot of other reviewers. If you you’ve ever been to a museum before, you gotta say this one is pretty small. Sure, 200 baht each is not a lot of money but, for what you’re getting, it’s not a bargain. I guess it may be worth a visit when you’re exploring the Nimman area (which you should) – if they deign to let you in.
If you are into bugs/entomology or science and the natural world generally, this is a great place to visit and they have an amazing collection of little beasts.
SUCH an amazing place. Spent about an hour and a half here, could easily spend more. There’s so much more than just the incredible insect collection. Also has a fantastic sea shell collection, and rock and fossil collection. I can’t believe there were some reviews saying it was expensive for what it is. It’s STUNNING. They have two and a half foot long dinosaur eggs! Incredible. Sea shells more beautiful and large than I thought possible. Such a beautiful and educational story about the mosquito-expert owners as well.
Very interesting and quite a large and diverse collection with a personal touch and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit, we spent quite some time in this museum
Cute little museum with lots of specimens and interesting facts. Well laid out. It doesn’t take long to get around, fills in a spare 1/2 hr or so. The mosquito research that was carried out was impressive and I’m sure played a big role in understanding mosquito borne diseases.
This museum is absolutely amazing. Other reviews said you can cruise through in 30 minutes, however I feel if you are even vaguely interested in entomology then you should definitely set aside more time to fully enjoy what this museum has to offer. It is fairly small, but well set up and with plentiful information about the history of the owners and interesting topics like mosquito-borne diseases and termite art. I wish I had given myself more time to explore!
Unless you are really in to insects, this place is a little weird. It may look like it is closed but you need to ring the bell at the gate and the lovely lady will let you in. Lots of insect specimens and a little bit religious ministry.
